What We Can Do for You

Located on the secluded southern tip of Long Island - one of the Whitsunday group of National Park islands on the Great Barrier Reef - off the north east coast of Australia. The Lodge is in the appropriately named Paradise Bay, with a small sand beach surrounded by rainforest. There are two resorts at the north end of Long Island, which are more than five miles away through thick impenetrable rainforest and are inaccessible to the Wilderness Lodge.

Guest accommodation is in private waterfront cabins - all with bathrooms and large verandas with uninterrupted views of Paradise Bay. These beautifully designed and constructed solar powered cabins, built in 1999, provide absolute privacy and a unique natural ambience.

Things to do include exploring the surrounding islands during the daily sailing, snorkelling and kayaking excursions. The Lodge owns and operates it's own 34 foot yacht, which sails most days to a different location within the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. On one of your days at the Lodge, a seaplane will fly you to the outer Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach. Other days you may choose to explore on your own in one of the sea kayaks, walk a rainforest trail, or simply relax in a hammock, swim or snorkel off the beach at the Lodge.

Getting here is easy and convenient with daily flights by QANTAS direct from Sydney, Brisbane and Cairns to Hamilton Island, from where a helicopter transfers you to the Lodge with an exhilarating ten minute flight. Alternatively you can fly to Proserpine airport on the mainland, where a 40 minute bus or taxi ride will take you to a small plane airport at Airlie Beach, from where a helicopter can transfer you to the Lodge in 15 minutes. You can also drive direct to Airlie Beach airport where security car parking is available.

The all inclusive tariff The all inclusive tariff includes return helicopter transfers from Hamilton Island or Airlie Beach airport, accommodation in private waterfront cabins, all meals, daily kayaking, bushwalking, snorkelling and sailing excursions to surrounding islands (usually 10am to 4pm), all equipment, and a day trip to the outer Great Barrier Reef and Whitehaven Beach by seaplane. What really makes the Wilderness Lodge such a special experience, is the friendly personalised service of our resident chef, hostess, and boat skipper - with the opportunity to meet and form friendships with guests from around the world in an unpretentious and homely atmosphere - with complete privacy and seclusion from the outside world.

Most guests comment that they have never felt so relaxed or laughed so much in their lives. We achieve this by simply putting a good group of people together in an amazing environment, with nothing to worry about, delicious meals and interesting activities which are well organised but done with a great sense of fun and adventure.
